First 4 Characters: Bank Code
The first four alphabetic characters identify the bank. For example:
SBIN= State Bank of IndiaHDFC= HDFC BankICIC= ICICI BankUTIB= Axis Bank
5th Character: Reserved (Always 0)
The fifth character is always 0 (zero) and is reserved for future use by the Reserve Bank of India.
Last 6 Characters: Branch Code
The last six characters uniquely identify the specific branch. Each branch of the same bank will have a different branch code.
Important
IFSC codes are case-insensitive, but they are conventionally written in uppercase letters.
